sweet potato casserole ingredients

Sweet Potatoes: Sweet potatoes are the star ingredient in this casserole. They are peeled, cubed, and cooked until fork-tender, then mashed with butter, brown sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon to create a smooth and creamy filling. Sweet potatoes are rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals and are a great source of complex carbohydrates. In addition, their natural sweetness provides the base for the dish and makes it a perfect balance of sweet and savory.

Butter: Butter is used in both the filling and the topping of the casserole. It adds richness and flavor to the sweet potatoes, making them even more decadent and delicious. The butter in the topping also helps to create a crunchy texture that contrasts with the creamy filling.

Brown Sugar: Brown sugar is used to sweeten the filling and the topping of the casserole. It provides a rich and caramel-like flavor that pairs well with sweet potatoes. It also helps to create a golden-brown crust on top of the casserole.

Vanilla Extract: Vanilla extract is added to the filling to enhance the sweet potato’s natural flavor and add a warm and comforting aroma. It helps to balance the sweetness of the brown sugar and cinnamon, making the dish more complex and flavorful.

Cinnamon: Cinnamon is a warm and aromatic spice used to season the casserole’s filling and topping. It adds a subtle kick that complements the sweetness of the sweet potatoes and brown sugar.

Whole Milk: Whole milk is added to the filling to create a smooth and creamy texture. It helps to bind the ingredients together and add richness to the dish.

All-Purpose Flour: All-purpose flour is used in the topping to create a crumbly and crunchy texture. It also helps to thicken the topping and create a cohesive layer over the sweet potato filling.

Pecans are chopped and added to the topping to provide a nutty and crunchy texture. They also add a rich buttery flavor that complements the brown sugar and cinnamon sweetness.
