  • Pineapple Rings: The star of the show! The sweetness of the pineapples and their juicy texture are what make this dessert so unique. They also add a tropical flavor to the irresistible cake.
  • Maraschino Cherries: Not only do they add a pop of color to the cake, but the tangy flavor of the cherries also complements the sweetness of the pineapples perfectly.
  • Butter: Melted butter is used in the topping to create a sticky caramel-like sauce that coats the pineapples and cherries. Butter is also used in the cake batter to add richness and flavor.
  • Brown Sugar: Brown sugar adds sweetness and a caramel flavor to the topping. It also helps to create a gooey texture that pairs well with the pineapples and cherries.
  • All-Purpose Flour: Flour is used as the base of the cake and provides structure to the dessert.
  • Baking Powder: Baking powder helps the cake rise and creates a light and fluffy texture.
  • Salt: A pinch of salt is added to balance out the sweetness of the cake and bring out the flavors of the other ingredients.
  • Granulated Sugar: Sugar sweetens the cake and creates a tender crumb.
  • Egg: The egg helps to bind the cake ingredients together and adds richness to the batter.
  • Vanilla Extract: Vanilla extract adds flavor and aroma to the cake.
  • Sour Cream: Sour cream is used in the batter to add moisture and create a tender crumb.
  • Pineapple Juice: Pineapple juice is used in the batter to add flavor and moistness to the cake. It also helps to enhance the tropical flavor of the pineapples.

To make this Pineapple Upside Down Cake, you’ll also need a 9-inch round cake pan, mixing bowls, a whisk, an electric mixer, measuring cups and spoons, and a spatula.

Tips and Tricks for Making the Perfect Upside-Down Cake

Here are some helpful tips and tricks to ensure that your Pineapple Upside Down Cake turns out perfectly:

  1. Use room temperature ingredients. Letting the butter and egg come to room temperature before mixing will help create a smooth and fluffy batter.
  2. Use a non-stick cake pan. A non-stick cake pan will make it easier to flip the cake without sticking to the pan.
  3. Be patient when flipping the cake. Wait 30-60 seconds before lifting the pan off the cake. This will give the cake time to release from the pan, and you’ll have a perfectly shaped cake.
  4. Slice the pineapple rings thinly. This will help them cook evenly and create a more tender texture.
  5. Drain the pineapple and cherries well. This will prevent the topping from becoming too runny and help the cake bake evenly.
  6. Add some rum or coconut flakes. For a tropical twist, add a splash of rum to the batter or sprinkle some coconut flakes on top of the cake.
  7. Use fresh pineapple. If you have fresh pineapple, feel free to use it instead of canned. Just make sure to slice it thinly and remove the core.
  8. Experiment with different toppings. If you’re feeling adventurous, swap the pineapple and cherries for other fruits, such as peaches, apricots, or mango.

How to Serve Pineapple Upside-Down Cake

Pineapple Upside Down Cake is a dessert that is both beautiful and delicious, and it can be served in a variety of ways. Here are some ideas on how to serve this classic dessert:

pineapple upside down cake recipe

  1. Warm: Serve the cake warm straight out of the oven with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream on top. The contrast between warm cake and cold ice cream is simply divine!
  2. Room Temperature: If you prefer your cake at room temperature, let it cool completely before serving. Slice it into wedges and serve with a dusting of powdered sugar or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
  3. Chilled: For a refreshing twist, chill the cake in the refrigerator for a few hours before serving. This will make it even more moist and tender, intensifying the flavors.
  4. Individual Servings: Cut the cake into small squares or circles using a cookie cutter and serve them as individual servings. Top each serving with a small dollop of whipped cream and a cherry.
  5. Brunch: Who says Pineapple Upside Down Cake has to be a dessert? Serve it as a sweet and indulgent brunch dish with coffee or tea.

How to Store Pineapple Upside-Down Cake

If you have any leftovers of this delicious Pineapple Upside Down Cake, here are some storage tips to keep it fresh and moist for as long as possible:

  1. Room Temperature: You can store the cake at room temperature for up to two days, covered tightly with plastic wrap or foil. Be sure to keep it away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
  2. Refrigerator: If you need to store the cake for longer than two days or live in a hot and humid climate, store it in the fridge. Cover it tightly with plastic wrap or foil, and it will last for up to five days.
  3. Freezer: If you have more cake than you can eat, freeze it for up to three months. Wrap it tightly with plastic wrap or foil and place it in an airtight container or freezer bag. To thaw, let it sit at room temperature for a few hours before serving.
  4. Reheating: If you want to enjoy the cake warm, you can reheat it in the microwave or oven. For the microwave, heat on high for 15-20 seconds per slice. For the oven, preheat to 350°F, place the cake on a baking sheet, and heat for 5-10 minutes.

Now that you’ve got the perfect Pineapple Upside Down Cake recipe, it’s time to get baking! This cake reminds me of my Mom’s homemade cake, in which she adds more pineapples coz it got a natural sweetness to it. Not everyone loves pineapples, and they didn’t know how much they are missing.
