Summer Yard Chores for Kids

Are you looking for ways to get your kids involved in chores this summer? Doing chores outside gives your kids a great excuse to have some fun in the sun, all while making sure your yard looks pristine. Not sure where to start? Here are some yard chores that kids of all ages can help with.

Move the Sprinkler

When you water your lawn, you have the task of moving the sprinkler periodically so that each section of your yard gets watered. A sprinkler is essential for keeping your garden healthy with just how convenient it is in keeping your lawn looking immaculate. Instead of heading outside to move the sprinkler around yourself, make this one of the chores your kids are in charge of. To your kids, this chore will be something fun they look forward to since they can run around and play in the sprinkler after they have moved it to a new location!

Water the Flowers

Watering the flowers is another fun chore that your kids will love to do. Put a nozzle on your hose and send your kids outside to make sure all of those flowers and bushes get enough water. Just make sure your kids are in their swimsuits since they’re very likely to get wet themselves!

Pull Weeds

Get rid of those pesky weeds this summer by assigning this chore to your kids. At the beginning of the summer, go outside with your kids and show them which plants are weeds and which ones are flowers or shrubs that need to stay. After practicing this a few times together as a family, soon your kids will be able to tackle a flowerbed and clear all the weeds by themselves.

Pick Up Sticks

When mowing your lawn, the last thing you want to do is stop the mower so that you can pick up a stick that’s in the way. Instead, give your kids the task of picking up all the sticks from the yard. If you have a pine tree, you can also have your kids hunt for all of the pinecones that have dropped into your yard. Once this task is done, your kids can have fun arranging the sticks and other items into their own pieces of nature art.

Sweep the Sidewalks

Invariably, the sidewalk outside your house will get messy. Dirt, grass clippings, and even trash will make its way to the sidewalk or driveway. Keep the outside of your home looking nice by having your kids sweep the sidewalk. If you have a driveway, you can also have them sweep that. This will keep the cement outside of your home looking clean, increasing its curb appeal.
