What You’ll Need:

marshmallow pops recipe

  • Large Marshmallows: A 10 oz (285g) bag will give you about 35 pops.
  • Yellow Candy Melts: You’ll need 1 cup (6oz, 175g) to cover the marshmallows.
  • Blue Candy Melts: 3/4 cup (4.5oz, 130g) for the Minions’ overalls.
  • Black Cookie Icing: 2-3 tablespoons to create the goggle straps and smiles.
  • Candy Eyeballs: Make sure you have enough for about 35 marshmallows.
  • Candy Sticks or Paper Straws: About 35 for easy handling of the pops.
  • Parchment Paper
  • Disposable Piping Bag (no tip needed)

Tools Needed:  To create these adorable marshmallow treats, you’ll need two small, microwave-safe mixing bowls for melting the candy in separate colors. Have parchment paper ready to place the dipped marshmallows on for setting. A disposable piping bag (no tip needed) will be essential for applying the black icing to create the Minions’ faces and goggles. These tools will ensure a smooth and enjoyable process as you bring these fun treats to life!

How to Make Minions Marshmallow Pops

1. Prep Your Materials:

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside. This will be your work surface where the marshmallows can cool and harden.

2. Melt the Blue Candy Melts:

Heat the blue candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl at 50% power for 1 minute. Stir well. Continue heating in 30-second increments, stirring after each, until thoroughly melted and smooth. This should take about 5 minutes.

3. Dip the Marshmallows:

Take each marshmallow and dip the bottom third into the blue candy melt, creating the Minion’s overalls. Immediately insert a candy stick or paper straw into the bottom center of the marshmallow. Stand the pops upright on the parchment paper and let the blue candy harden for about 4-5 minutes.

4. Melt the Yellow Candy Melts:

While the blue layer hardens, melt the yellow candy melts using the same method as the blue. Heat at 50% power for 1 minute, stir, and then continue in 30-second intervals until smooth.

5. Dip in Yellow Candy:

Once the blue layer has set, dip the top two-thirds of the marshmallow into the yellow candy melt, covering it right up to the edge of the blue. This will create the Minion’s body. Place the marshmallows back on the parchment paper to set.

6. Decorate the Minions:

After hardening the yellow candy, use a small disposable piping bag filled with black cookie icing to attach the candy eyeballs to each marshmallow. Draw the straps for the goggles and add a smile underneath. If you’re feeling extra creative, use a piping bag with melted blue candy to add tiny pockets or straps to the Minions’ overalls. Let the icing harden completely before serving.

7. Enjoy and Store:

Once fully set, your Minions Marshmallow Pops are ready to be enjoyed! Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days. The candy coating seals the marshmallow, keeping it fresh longer.

Tips and Tricks

  • Freezing the Pops: You can freeze these marshmallow pops, but you must freeze them before attaching the eyeballs and black icing. Place them in an airtight container and freeze for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to decorate, thaw them on the counter on a paper towel to absorb any moisture. Make sure the pops are completely dry before adding the finishing touches.
  • Finding Candy Melts: If you can’t find the right colors of candy melts, simply use white candy melts and dye them with food coloring. I found both yellow and blue candy melts at my local craft store in the baking aisle.
  • Creative Add-Ons: Use a piping bag with melted blue candy to add tiny pockets or straps to the Minions’ overalls for an extra touch. It’s a fun way to make these pops even more adorable!
  • Party Favors: Package these Minions Marshmallow Pops in little plastic treat bags with a ribbon, and you’ve got an excellent party favor that kids will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 10oz (285g) bag of large marshmallows
  • 1 cup (6oz, 175g) yellow candy melts
  • 3/4 cup (4.5oz, 130g) blue candy melts
  • 23 tablespoons black cookie icing
  • candy eyeballs
  • approximately 35 candy sticks or paper straws

Instructions

  1. Place the blue candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave at 50% power for 1 minute. Stir the melts and continue microwaving at 50% power in 30-second increments, stirring between each interval, until the candy is smooth and fully melted. This process will take approximately 5 minutes.
  2. Dip the bottom third of each marshmallow into the melted blue candy. Immediately insert a stick into the blue-coated end of the marshmallow. Allow the marshmallow to stand and harden for 4-5 minutes.
  3. In a separate microwave-safe bowl, place the yellow candy melts and microwave at 50% power for 1 minute. Stir, then continue microwaving at 50% power in 30-second increments until the candy is smooth and fully melted, stirring between each interval. This will also take about 5 minutes.
  4. Using the straw as a handle, dip the uncoated two-thirds of the marshmallow into the melted yellow candy, up to the edge of the blue. Place the marshmallow on a piece of parchment paper to harden and set.
  5. Once the candy has hardened, snip a small opening at the tip of the black icing piping bag for precise application. Use the black icing to attach the candy eyeballs, draw the goggle straps, and add a cute smile. Allow the icing to harden.
  6. Enjoy once the icing has fully set!
