Stretching: The Ki-Hara Way by Olympian Dara Torres

Any fitness guru will tell you the importance of stretching before performing any exercise program. Stretching exercises increase flexibility and are designed to stabilize the joints as you lengthen, tone and balance your muscles.

For internationally renowned Olympic swimmer and mom, Dara Torres- the Ki-Hara way of stretching is what helped her achieve balance and true flexibility.

Ki-Hara is a form of flexibility, strength training, and core work refined by Steven Sierra and Anne Tierney of Innovative Body Solutions. In ancient Chinese, ki (sometimes called chi or prana) refers to the circulating energy thought to be inherent in all living things; hara refers to the vital center of the self. Ki-Hara uses stretching techniques that moves the arms and legs in specific, explosive rotational and diagonal patterns, engages the core continually and the body achieves optimal strength and flexibility in all ranges of motion.

According to Anne and Steve of Innovative Body Solutions, "Ki-Hara is like no other workout you´ve ever done before. Following the workout, you will feel an instant release of tension as well as a burst of energy as the muscles are stripped of toxins and lactic acid and replenished with fresh blood and oxygen".

In Dara Torres' new book, "Gold Medal Fitness: A Revolutionary 5-WEEK Program", she shows how 16 simple Ki-Hara Resistance Stretching Exercises can make a lot of difference in your body and how they can target not only the areas in your body that you're aware of needing stretching, but also those that you're less aware of. The results? You feel more limber and nimble and your body moves more fluidly.

Amazing, right? Find out more about Ki-Hara and how you can incorporate it in your regular workout routine from Dara Torres' book, "Gold Medal Fitness: A Revolutionary 5-WEEK Program". Now available at your leading book retailers and at Amazon.com for $25.99.

My gym (or Crossfit Box) is hosting a workshop with Anne Tierney and Steve Sierra on October 2nd. I'm hoping to make it there. Dara changed my life - I'm turning 40 in 2 weeks and active with Crossfit & brazilian jiu jitsu. I think age is just motivating me to do more. (jen)
