We all know that this year's holiday season is different. Well, everything is a little different this year. But that doesn't mean we can't enjoy good food and quality time with our family. Sitting around the table with the people I love is definitely my favorite part of the season! Of course, any family gathering I host, no matter how small, will always have an abundance of food. No matter what's going on in the world, delicious home-cooked meals are something that I will always be happy to provide. 🙂
I was recently thinking about what will be on my family's Christmas menu this year. In the past, we have hosted get-togethers for family and friends complete with multi-course meals, gourmet passed appetizers and full dessert bars. This year, we will just be celebrating the holidays with immediate family members but I still want to keep the decadence of the food. I can surely make Christmas feel "normal" by serving the over the top dishes that my family looks forward to all year.
One recipe that I know I will be making is my easy sausage appetizer cups. I make these multiple times every holiday season and my family goes crazy for them. I am a big fan too because they are totally delicious but also because they are very simple to put together. You could whip up a huge batch of these sausage cups in just a few minutes! All you need are six, tasty ingredients and you are on your way to an amazing appetizer.
When making a recipe that only uses a few, choice ingredients, you really want to be sure that the brands and ingredients you choose are of the highest quality. You really can taste the difference. Since sausage is the main ingredient in this recipe, you especially want to be sure that you use the best sausage possible. I always opt for Johnsonville All Natural Fresh Italian Ground Sausage, which is the tastiest sausage I have ever tried. It has the perfect amount of seasonings and the flavor of the tender meat shines through in these sausage cups. My family is not a huge fan of spicy foods so I always use the mild sausage. Johnsonville sausage is available in mild, hot and sweet varieties so it brings flavor to any dish.
While you are shopping for the sausage to make this recipe, you should probably pick up some extra packs as well. Swap out your boring ground meat for the all-natural and flavorful Johnsonville Ground Italian Sausage to take any recipe to the next flavor level. Skip the ground beef or basic ground chicken- it's the holidays and you need something special! Since the sausage is packed with spices and flavors, you can easily elevate your go-to dishes this fall and winter. Use Johnsonville sausage instead to impress your family with fresh, flavorful dishes this holiday season. It is an easy and smart switch to make!
How to make easy and yummy Sausage Cups
Now that we all know how important good ingredients are, let's get back to my sausage cups recipe. To begin making this super easy appetizer, you need to brown the sausage well in a large skillet. Be sure to break up the pieces as they cook with a spatula. You want nice, small crumbles that will fit right into the mini cups later on.
The cooked sausage is mixed with shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream and ranch seasoning. This mix is scooped into the mini phyllo dough cups, filling each cup to the top. The cups are then baked until they are brown on the edges. Serve these sausage cups immediately as they are amazing when still hot out of the oven! That's it! A few quick steps and you have a picture-worthy appetizer ready to serve!
The delicious taste of the Johnsonville sausage along with the cheesy, creamy filling ingredients go so well with the crisp phyllo dough. The mini size of the cups make for a perfect 2-bite appetizer and are surely going to disappear quickly anytime you serve them. Who could possibly resist a pretty little appetizer like this?!
The holidays won't be the same this year, that's for sure. But that doesn't mean we can't try to make the best of it. Celebrating with food is one way that I am ensuring my Christmas is just as wonderful as it is every year. I may not be making appetizers for 100 people but I am still going to make them for those I love the most.
I hope you give this recipe a try as well and impress your family with your cooking. A few good ingredients, a little bit of time and a lot of love is all you need! Enjoy!
