Summer is right around the corner and I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s excited about it. In the summer, the weather is awesome and it’s easy to go out and engage in fun, outdoor activities.
There are thousands of things to love about the summer. I could name so many but here are my top favorite things about summer!
1. Traveling with my family
I already love traveling any time of the year, but especially in the summer! My husband and I always plan to go somewhere different with our boys every summer and we love going to the beach mostly and stay in a cool hotel. I also really love summer because I get to plan to see my younger sister who lives in New York. Since she’s not too far from us, we usually plan to meet up in the middle and spend time with her and her family every other summer. This coming August, we’re headed to New York and I can’t wait to make sweet new memories with them again!
2. Spending time in our family pool
I feel fortunate that we don’t have to take the kids to the community pool every time they want to go swimming. We have our family swimming pool in the backyard and it’s one of the top reasons why we bought our current house. We love hanging out in our swimming pool in the summer a lot and we have cookouts and do bonfires at night. The kids love the swimming pool and it’s great that they can be as obnoxious as they want to be, while I’ll just be lounging in the chair sipping my cocktail and checking my Instagram page, lol.
3. Vineyards and dining al fresco
My husband and I are wine lovers and if you live in Virginia, you can’t NOT like wine (wink wink). Virginia is not only known for its beautiful scenery, we also have lots of awesome vineyards here. In the summer, my husband and I would go visit at least a vineyard or two and we’d usually find a cool restaurant nearby where we can dine al fresco. 🙂
4. Ice Cream
Now what’s summer without enjoying ice cream all season long? We usually love to go to the closest ice cream store and sit outside to enjoy ice cream.
I also just recently discovered Tillamook Ice Cream Sandwiches from our local Costco. We’ve tried many ice cream sandwiches in the past but these ones are way more flavorful and indulgent.. creamy and smooth and yummy to the last bite!

5. Summer outdoor concerts
I love summer concerts especially when we can bring our own food, wine and blanket and have a little picnic too! The Washington DC/Northern Virginia area where we live boasts of so many fun concert venues that are family-friendly and we take advantage of it. Last summer, my husband and I saw Def Leppard and Journey together in concert and we had a blast!
6. Daylight Savings
I don’t necessarily hate the winter season, but 9 out of 12 months of cold and sometimes crazy snow here in Northern Virginia can get us feeling dreary and blah. I love the longer daytime in the summer because I feel like we have more time to do things and it gets darker outside a lot later.

I don’t like the heat, but I always loved it when my kids weren’t in school. Those ice cream sandwiches look really good! Family vacations are so much fun!
Other than the family vacation, I just love the rest and relaxation during the summertime. And the sleeping in too.

These are some amazing ideas of things to do with the family over the summer. I have to admit i love getting to spend time with friends and family, we are heading away soon with my parents and the other halves as well.
Though I eat ice cream any season, I agree with you on the family traveling when its. Not really a fan of it but I appreciate those times.

Eating fresh veggies and fruit is one of my favorite things to do during summer. We miss the greens that are in-season, not just store bought.
