- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- the paste from 3 vanilla beans, approximately 1.5 teaspoons
Frosting:
- 1/2 cup (4oz, 119g) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 and 1/2 cups (11.8oz, 334g) icing sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons milk
- the paste from 2 vanilla beans, approximately 1 teaspoon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- green food colouring
- red food colouring
- assorted Christmas or holiday sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F. Liberally spray your doughnut pan with cooking spray or grease it with butter.
- In a large mixing bowl, sift together the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Set this bowl aside.
- In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla bean paste until smooth.
- Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients in the large mixing bowl. Pour the wet ingredients into the well and stir thoroughly until fully combined.
- Fill each cavity of the prepared doughnut pan to ¾ full, ensuring the batter is evenly distributed.
- Bake the doughnuts in the preheated oven for 15-17 minutes or until they spring back when gently pressed.
- Allow the doughnuts to cool in the pan for 5-7 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack to cool completely.
- While the doughnuts cool, beat the butter and half of the powdered sugar together in a medium bowl (or stand mixer bowl) on high speed until the mixture becomes grainy, about 3 minutes.
- Add the vanilla bean paste, salt, and remaining powdered sugar to the frosting base. Beat on high speed until crumbly, about 2 minutes.
- While mixing on high speed, add milk one tablespoon at a time until the frosting reaches your desired consistency.
- Divide the frosting into two portions. Place ¼ cup of frosting in a small bowl and add red food coloring to achieve your desired red shade. Color the remaining frosting with green food coloring for the desired hue.
- Transfer the green frosting to a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe the green frosting onto the cooled doughnuts. Add assorted decorative sprinkles. Using the red frosting, pipe a red “bow” on top. Enjoy immediately!
