PJs For The Cure Needs Your Support Raising Funds for Juvenile Diabetes- Some Facts and a PJ Giveaway!

Do you know that juvenile diabetes affects more than 15,000 US children each year? That's why November has been marked National Diabetes Awareness Month- a perfect time to raise awareness about this disease.

Some Facts about Diabetes:

Diabetes is a chronic, debilitating disease affecting every organ system. There are two major types of diabetes: type 1 and type 2.

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. Type 1 diabetes usually strikes in childhood, adolescence, or young adulthood, but it lasts a lifetime. People with type 1 diabetes must take multiple injections of insulin daily or continually infuse insulin through a pump to survive.

Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disorder in which a person’s body still produces insulin but is unable to use it effectively. Type 2 is usually diagnosed in adulthood and does not always require insulin injections. However, increased obesity has led to a recent rise in cases of type 2 diabetes in young adults.

The Damage Caused by Diabetes:

Attacks Many Organ Systems: Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure, adult blindness, and non-traumatic amputations and a leading cause of nerve damage, stroke, and heart attacks.

Increased Risk
: People with diabetes are two to four times more likely to have a heart attack or stroke than someone without the disease.

Shortens Life: Diabetes kills one American every three minutes and is the 7th leading cause of death reported in the U.S. Life expectancy for people with diabetes is shortened by an average of 7-10 years.

In an effort to effectively support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation(JDRF), Komar- the largest sleepwear and intimate apparel manufacturer in the United States, has created a fun way to raise funds through its non-profit foundation, PJs For The Cure. This program is unique in that Komar is donating 100% of every sale to JDRF to fund further research for a cure for this chronic disease that predominately strikes in childhood. Through this program, Komar will donate 100% of all sales from PJs For The Cure to the JDRF to help fund diabetes research. Komar aims to donate $1 million to the JDRF and they need our help to reach this aggressive, but not impossible goal.

I like the Monkey With Balloons Print in size 6.

I'd like to do more, but so far we've made up a couple shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child and given to Heifer International.

We recently made Holiday cards which we are sending to our brave soldiers and also going to visit at a local senior home and give them some cards and cheer! :)

This is a great business! I would choose Monkey With Balloons Print size 8.

I like the Scotty Dog Print in XL

I always pick up extra non-perishable food, health and beauty aids (toothbrushes, shampoo, etc.) and small toys when I go shopping and I donate these to the local homeless shelter or battered women's shelter. At this time of year, it's especially important to remember those less fortunate.

We do some Toys for Tots (using coupons smartly makes it possible to buy more and share more with the same money) and we also help with food basket and gift supplies at church.

We do 2 shoe boxes for Op Christmas Child as well- and will do 3 when my 1 year old is old enough to 'get' it.
