Play, Create and Explore Music with Beamz- Review and Giveaway

I'm always on the lookout for cool new gadgets to try, so I was very thrilled when my Beamz Interactive Music System arrived at my doorstep.

Wow, who would have thought laser beams could make streams of music?

Just watch this video.

When I first saw the Beamz and set up the system on our computer, I admit I was a little intimidated. But I was surprised to see how easy it is to use it. This musical product is simply amazing! I don't possess any musical skill whatsoever. But with the Beamz, I feel like a professional music performer, lol. I touch the six light beams in whatever way I want and I instantly create music. Even my four year old loves playing with the laser lights and making music with it!

So the big question, you might wonder, is, how does Beamz create music with laser beams?

Answer: By breaking the path of each of the six laser beams, the Beamz triggers multiple streams of musical notes and sounds that are always in harmony with one another and are never out of key. Software powers the Beamz Interactive Music System.

You can easily create and explore all types of music such as rock, jazz, classical, dance, hip hop, country, blues rock, salsa- and more with the Beamz Interactive Music System. It easily connects to your computer’s USB port and you don’t need to read music to play it. Just install the software that comes with it and you’re ready to go!

*System Requirements for the Beamz Interactive Music System:

- Host computer with Pentium 4 processor or greater
- Windows XP (32bit) or Windows Vista (32bit) -
the system is NOT compatible with 64 bit operating systems or the Mac OS
- 512MB DRAM; 4GB available HD space
- 1 dedicated USB port (cannot connect via USB hub

The Beamz is available for purchase at http://www.thebeamz.com/ and costs $199.95. This includes 30 original Beamz composed songs, plus you’ll receive 5 additional songs of your choice to download for free when you register your new Beamz on the website. You can also purchase additional songs while you're there. Beamz has a complete selection of original, top-hits songs like Hotel California, FunkyTown, Celebration, Every Breath You Take, Imagine, I Like To Move It, Rock Your Body, Viva La Vida and more! And your kids will definitely love songs made for them like Old McDonald, Yankee Doodle, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Bingo, Mahna Mahna and many more! Each song costs $2.99. The Beamz Interactive Music System is great for social gatherings and will definitely provide entertainment for family and friends!

*And wonderful news for you all Hip Mama's Place readers! One of you can win the Beamz Interactive Music System valued at $200!

Honestly, this reminded me of "Senior Design class" while I was finishing my BsEE degree -- where teams of students brainstorm on wild and sometimes-useful "design projects"... Using lasers and sensors to detect motion, etc, and then to control music, was usually a popular context for design projects -- and THIS looks like someone actually rubbed all the rough edges off of it and made something with commercial potential.

Wow, I'm really impressed by the Beamz system. I think it's a great way to introduce kids (and non-musicians) to music - I love how different beams correspond to different instruments (with pretty decent sound quality), and it's definitely a good tool for teaching rhythm to just about anyone. This would make a perfect gift for families - everyone can enjoy it, especially since both kid-friendly and adult-friendly songs are included (loved the "Hotel California" video!). Thanks!
