I’m not much of a big fan of avocados, although I don’t necessarily hate it.
I was recently reading a fitness article on Self.com about superfoods that will help achieve a flatter belly (my biggest fitness challenge!) and avocados was listed as one of the must-have foods to add to your diet if you want a sleek, sexier belly. If you were unfamiliar with this, you can always choose to learn more here about the advantages avocados have on your health. The more you know, the better it may be for you in the long run.
I thought I’d share this wonderful knowledge to my dear HMP readers. 🙂
From Self.com’s article “Superfoods for Flat Abs”, here’s why avocados are good for you!
Superpower: It fights fat. If there were an Academy Award for Flat Abs, the monounsaturated fat in avocados would be the Meryl Streep of nutrients, winning nods year after year. Dieters who consumed monounsaturated fats lost more stomach bulge than those eating the same number of calories but less of the fats, a study in the journal Diabetes Care finds. And a study in the journal Obesity reveals that when monkeys ate trans fats, their waists were 30 percent bigger than those of simians eating monounsaturated fats.
How it works: Blood sugar peaks can signal your body to store fat around your midsection, but monounsaturated fats stop the spikes, thwarting fat accumulation. Half an avocado contains 10 grams of the healthy fats. Dip veggie slices in 1/4 cup guacamole for a flat-ab snack.
So today, I vowed to make a trip to Whole Foods Market and get my ingredients for these super yummy Kale Carrot and Avocado Salad!
2 cups grated carrots
1/2 avocado, peeled and pitted
1/4 cup thinly sliced red onion
2 tablespoons lemon or lime juice
2 tablespoons sesame seeds, toasted
1/2 teaspoon reduced sodium soy sauce
