I just saw on the news yesterday about the ongoing investigation on Target’s massive security breach issue that I also posted here last month. If you’re not familiar about this issue, you may be affected if you made any credit or debit purchases in-store at Target between November 27th and December 15th, 2013.
Yesterday, Target announced that their continuing investigation has determined that in addition to the payment card information, the stolen information also include names, mailing addresses, phone numbers or email addresses for up to 70 million individuals.
Gregg Steinhafel, chairman, president and chief executive officer at Target expressed frustration and regret about this data breach issue and has assured that Target customers will have zero liability for the cost of any fraudulent charges arising from this breach. And to further provide further peace of mind, Target is offering free credit monitoring and identity theft protection to all guests who shopped at Target U.S. stores. This free service from Target will include a complimentary credit report, daily credit monitoring, identity theft insurance where available, and access to personalized assistance. Guests will have three months to sign up for this free credit monitoring program. Further details on this and more on the Target data breach will follow in the next few days at target.com/databreach.
