I discovered la Madeleine Country French Café in Sugarland, Texas (a small city within the Houston metro area) when I used to live there and the restaurant is only a few blocks from our house. I’ve always loved their pastries, fresh salads and sandwiches so I’d mostly go there for breakfast and lunch. If you’ve ever stepped into one of these restaurants, it’s like you’re being transported to the French countryside .. it’s relaxed, and the warm, home atmosphere is very welcoming.
Recently, I was invited to sample the new summer menu offerings at la Madeleine Country French Café and I jumped at the chance. My husband has never been to one, so it was a perfect excuse for us to meet and have a relaxing lunch date on a super busy work day. We went to the one closest to us: the Kingstowne/Alexandria location.
This summer, la Madeleine Country French Café is honoring French summer traditions by offering the season’s best fruits and vegetables, including the Grape & Pecan Chicken Salade Croissant, the Bacon & Berry Salade and several new blueberry pattisseries.
“Summer in the French countryside is unlike any other in the world,” said Susan Dederen, vice president of culinary for la Madeleine. “From leisurely strolls amid open-air markets to harvesting the freshest produce available for meals with friends and family, the experience and tastes of the French countryside is not to be missed at our cafés this summer”.
I had the delicious Bacon & Berry Salade featuring blueberries and strawberries with mandarin oranges, roasted almonds and smoky bacon, served on field greens tossed in a balsamic vinaigrette and made even better with la Madeleine’s signature Lemon Madeleine. I also had the creamy Country Potato Soup accented with leeks and onions and garnished with cheddar cheese and chopped bacon.
My husband wanted to try something from the lunch entree so he had the Rosemary Roasted Chicken which was soooo good! He also tried the Tomato Basil Soupe (as recommended by the store manager). It’s a hearty cream based vegetarian (not vegan) soupe made with juicy, vine ripened tomatoes, fresh cream, and fresh basil. I’ll tell you one thing: my husband doesn’t really like anything with tomatoes but he absolutely loved this soupe! 🙂
For dessert, my husband and I both had the fresh fruit tart and the blueberry Crème Tart that features homemade pastry crème topped with fresh blueberries and a rosette of fresh whipped cream in a sweet tart shell.
Overall, we enjoyed our lunch at la Madeleine Country French Café! Everything we ordered from the new summer menu exceeded our expectations. Prices were reasonable and top notch customer service made our visit even more enjoyable!
