Recently, I partnered with South Moon Under and hosted my first fundraiser shopping event for the Howard County Autism Society. I have been planning to do this event for quite some time and this year, I finally took the plunge and made it happen!
As a mother of a child on the Autism spectrum, I know how it is to need support and advocacy and having a desire to promote awareness of this condition that affects millions of individuals and their families. The Howard County Autism Society serves individuals on the autism spectrum, their families, and their communities by providing us information, support, and advocacy; by promoting awareness of autism that values the dignity and uniqueness of each individual; and by working to improve the quality of and access to services and to educational opportunities.
It’s such a wonderful feeling to be able to give back and make a difference in people’s lives. I have dedicated this event to benefit the children and adults affected by Autism, and the families that support them.
The event happened last November 21st, 2013 at the newly-opened South Moon Under at Stonebridge Potomac Town Center in Woodbridge, Virginia. Customers were treated to a fun night of discounted shopping at South Moon Under, free light bites from Not Your Average Joe’s, yummy cupcakes from Confections and light cocktail drinks from Honest Tea. We also gave away some fun freebies like gift cards and various goodies from our generous sponsors, music and free swag bags to the first 100 customers that attended our event!
A friend asked me why I chose South Moon Under to be my host venue for this event. My simple answer: I love South Moon Under! I first discovered this store when my family visited the National Harbor in Maryland and saw their store there. I love the eclectic variety of clothes, shoes, accessories and random pretty things you can buy from this boutique store! I thought that this was a fantastic choice for a shopping event venue. And, I love that they have the heart to support a really worthy cause! They got about 21 stores in six U.S. states right now, but I can see this store expanding in many other cities too!
The South Moon Under Autism Awareness shopping event was the kind of event that required so much time and attention to details, but it is certainly something that I will do again in the near future!
Here’s a short extract from the Thank You letter I received from the Executive Director of Howard County Autism Society, Judy Grusso .. that truly touched my heart!
Thank you for the generous donation of $__ from the South Moon Under fundraiser. And, thank you for leading this effort. It is gifts like these that enable our organization to continue its important work on behalf of individuals in Howard County living with autism… your generosity helps make our work possible. On behalf of the children and adults with autism, and the families that support them, thank you for thinking of us!
To my family, dear friends, fellow bloggers and supporters and all of our kind and generous sponsors that made this event all possible, thank you very much from the bottom of my heart! This event wouldn’t have been successful without all of your love and support!
