How to Still Spend Time with Friends – Even Though You Have Young Children

Many of us dream about becoming mothers from a young age, so when it finally happens and you welcome your offspring into the world, there is no greater joy than tending to their every need and raising a family. If you’re a social person, while your main focus will inevitably be on your kids, you must factor in time for yourself as well. We all had a life before we had children, so here are some great tips on how to spend time with your friends, while being a mother too.

Have Regular Phone Calls

When you have young children, it feels like every waking second is spent on ensuring they’re fed, happy, and healthy. If you manage to get a minute to yourself, a phone call with a friend can do wonders for not only reducing stress but keeping your spirits up. Whether your friends are parents or not, having someone to talk to about your day can help keep you positive and upbeat. To avoid any interruptions (tantrums), it’s best to ring your friends while your child is napping.

Go for Walks

Being stuck within the same four walls with young children running riot can be emotionally and physically exhausting. Therefore, having some time to get outside the house and go for a walk with a friend is key for maintaining the relationship and getting some fresh air in your lungs. If your friends live nearby and you have someone to look after the kids, going for a stroll will keep your energy levels up and serve as an opportunity to catch up with your pals.

Connect Virtually

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we interact with our loved ones. If you have some free time while the kids are asleep and want to put it to good use, why not FaceTime or Zoom your besties? If you all enjoy online gaming, you can even host your own virtual game night, which will give you all something to look forward to. Although it may not be the same as it would be in person, connecting virtually and seeing your friends’ faces can help keep you sane!

Go for Dinner

As restrictions start to lift and cafes and restaurants begin to open again, why not head to dinner with your friends? If you have a partner, they’ll be fine looking after the kids for the evening. This may be the first time you’ve got glammed up for an outing, so be sure to make the most of it! Even if you can only go for a girl’s dinner every so often, having a night planned will help keep the friendship alive.

Invite Friends Over

Once we move out of the COVID-19 pandemic, why not invite your friends over for a much-needed catchup? Even if your kids are wreaking havoc around the house, your friends will be delighted to see you all. Whether you host a movie night, summer BBQ, or a coffee lunch, the choice is entirely up to you.

Just because you’re a parent, doesn’t mean you can’t have a social life. For some, friends are just as important as family, so doing any of the above will help you spend more quality time with your nearest and dearest.
