According to the National Alliance To End Homelessness, the pool of people at risk of homelessness, those in poverty, those living with friends and family, and those paying over half of their income for housing, has remained high despite improvements in unemployment and the overall economy in the U.S.
Most families become homeless because of some unforeseen financial crisis – a medical emergency, a car accident, a death in the family – that prevents them from being able to hold on to housing. Usually, homeless families require rent assistance, housing placement services, job assistance, and other short-term, one-time services before being able to return to independence and stability.
I have seen homelessness becoming more prevalent around our community. So I was more than glad to know that Johnsonville – the No. 1 national brand of brats, Italian sausage, smoked-cooked links and fresh breakfast sausage links, is offering apparel and charity sponsorship programs on Pear.
If you’ve never heard of Pear before, it ‘s a new (and free) online service that makes sponsorship easy for groups and events of all shapes and sizes to find a sponsor and easily raise up to $1,000 or more! Donations can come from a national brand (like Johnsonville) or local business near you and they support your group, event or charity by donating custom shirts, cash donations, products and services or food and catering.
So to see for myself how Pear works and because I truly am a proud supporter of organizations that help end homelessness, I personally created a Pear sponsorship page for my local charity: SERVE Family Shelter. It’s a division of Northern Virginia Family Service created to help individuals and families address a variety of needs related to housing and homelessness prevention in my own community.
I was really impressed about how easy and quick it was (took only a few minutes!) to create a sponsorship page for my charity. It even automatically showed a $0.25 raised from Johsnonville just by me creating the page. Then, I just performed other easy tasks while I was logged on to both my Pear and Facebook accounts, such as giving Johnsonville (my sponsor) a “Like” on their Facebook page, subscribing to their newsletter, sharing a photo of my fave Johnsonville recipe on Facebook and more, and because of those tasks, I was able to raise up to $11! How cool is that???!
Need to know how Pear works and how you too, can help raise cash donations, apparel, food and catering or service for your own group, event or charity? Just watch the short how-to video below to easily create your own sponsorship page on Pear. It’ so easy and it feels so great to be able to offer support to something you believe in without it costing you a dime. If you got a little time to support your group, event or charity, then I say, go and create your own Pear support page!
Or, if you’d rather not create your own sponsorship page, please be kind and support my charity here. It only takes a few minutes and you’ll be glad you did, as that would mean a lot to many homeless individuals and families in my community. The holiday gift-giving season is coming up soon, so why not make this a part of your charity? Remember, this is 100% free and supporting my charity (or your own if you have one) just means you are connecting with Johnsonville online, and you are not donating cash.
