Entertaining the kiddos this Summer doesn’t have to be hard on the wallet. Thanks to our local libraries and some businesses, it’s now easier for parents and guardians to help their children challenge their minds and keep them interested in reading even when school is out with these FREE Summer Reading programs! Check out the one that’s closest to you, then sign your kids up!
*Barnes & Noble
Children in Grades 1-6 will be rewarded for reading during the summer at Barnes & Noble! Check out their Summer Reading Program where kids get a FREE book after they have read 8 books of their choice.
*Read any 8 books and record them in the Reading Journal.
*Take the completed Reading Journal to your local Barnes & Noble store between May 19th and September 7th, 2015.
*Chose a FREE Book from the selection on the Reading Journal list at your local store
Books-a-Million is having a Summer Quest Reading Adventure where they reward participating kids with a free Camp Half-Blood Tote Bag when they read four books and turn in their journal to a local Books-a-Million store. To download the journal and see the 2015 Approved Summer Reading list, go here.
*Chuck E. Cheese
Kids can earn 10 FREE tokens at Chuck. E. Cheese each time they read for 2 weeks in a row! Just go here to print the certificate and to redeem tokens. Child(ren) must be present to redeem. No more than 1 of any free token offer can be used per child, per day. Only at participating locations. Food purchase is required. Offer expires 12/31/15.
*Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge
The Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge offers a free online reading program for children running now through September 4th, 2015. After registering, kids are challenged to read as many minutes as they can, then log their minutes and they will be rewarded with virtual prizes! The Grand Prize: the schools with the most minutes read will win a visit from Michael Northrop (top elementary school), and Varian Johnson (top middle school).
*TD Bank Summer Reading Program
Are you close to a TD Bank? Your kids can earn $10 to be deposited into their new or existing TD Bank Young Saver Account when they read 10 books.
1. Read 10 books this summer.
2. Print out the Summer Reading Form
3. Write down the names of the books they’ve read
4. Take the form to the nearest TD Bank
5. Watch $10 be deposited into a new or existing Young Saver Account
Offer is valid June 1st through August 31st, 2015, for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Form of ID is required for child to open a new savings account. Go here for more details.
Readers ages 13+ can get two FREE audiobook downloads every week each Summer through SYNC. Each week features a current Young Adult title paired with a Classic or Required Summer Reading title. Titles are delivered through the OverDrive app which can be downloaded for free. For more details, go here.
*Check Your Local Library
Last but not the least, check your local library. Most of them offer free reading programs that reward kids for reading during the summer. Ours offer goodies like a picture frame magnet, a book bag and coupons for food and fun with earned reading points, plus a chance to win the grand prize of a Kindle Fire HD! Now, I’m thinking. I am taking my kids to our local library this weekend! 🙂
