We all want a gorgeous, designer style kitchen. But for many of us, spending $50,000 on a kitchen update or remodel is not an option. Fortunately for me and my husband, when we moved into our twenty year old Colonial style home three years ago, the previous owner had already done a lot of remodeling in the kitchen. So all we had to do is add our own finishing touches, like adding window treatments and a few new kitchen decor items. You may even be looking for some form of kitchen appliances too. If this is the case, you would benefit from going to Identifyr for some product reviews.
I couldn’t be any happier with the way our kitchen feels and looks right now. It’s warm, cozy and it’s got just enough pop of colors to make it interesting. We get compliments from our guests all the time. 🙂
For this post, I thought it would be neat to talk about ideas on updating your kitchen.. without busting your wallet!
You know, I get inspired with all the home design ideas I see from my favorite home design shows on tv, on blogs, magazines and on Pinterest. Indeed, with a little creativity and some elbow grease, you can achieve your dream kitchen — even on a limited budget!
Here are some great, budget-savvy ideas to update and, eventually, achieve your dream kitchen!
A quick and easy way to update your cooking space is adding a kitchen backsplash. It makes a great focal point in any kitchen and comes in a wide array of eye-catching materials like metals, wood, glass and stone. I’ve seen people use chalkboard and whiteboard paints to create a beautiful kitchen backsplash. Wallpaper is also another great option which are available in an assortment of patterns and finishes like vinyl. If you like the look of metal without the cost, try laminates with a brushed stainless steel finish. Another cost-effective option: porcelain tiles that come in a range of patterns and textures to suit your style and budget.
Simply replacing a boring flush-mount ceiling fixture for a chandelier or hurricane pendant lighting can instantly change the look, energy and drama of your kitchen. Visit your local flea markets, thrift stores and discount lighting shops for extraordinary light fixtures at a great price. You can also try vintage lanterns, basket lights, or even mini chandeliers. I’ve seen an episode on HGTV about budget home decorating tips where a homeowner turned old lamps found in a flea market into cool, industrial-inspired hanging lights for her kitchen… the possibilities are endless! I have been in the process of changing the lighting features across the home. My personal favorite is barn lighting! They look so cool and add a very vintage style to the home.
Yep, as easy as that! I love how interior designer Charmean Neithart wallpapered the interior of this hutch to add a beautifully decorative element to the kitchen. For a cohesive look, be sure to tie in the wallpaper design and color with your existing kitchen wall colors and home decor or theme. Isn’t this clever? Now I know my next DIY kitchen project. 😉
If you lack storage space in your cabinets, think open wood shelving on metal brackets. They are easy to install and an affordable way to add instant accessory on your kitchen walls while providing functional display spaces for your everyday dishes.
It’s amazing how a new window treatment can add an elegant, finished look to any room. Personally, I have Roman shades in my kitchen and I love how they add a pop of color to that area in our home. Search online for how to DIY Roman shades if you’re on a tight budget. You’ll be surprised at how easy and affordable they are!
And last but not the least….
