Nice to be back after a full week of (blogging) absence. I have been extra busy preparing for a few upcoming exciting events for me and my family: one of the big ones will be a Halloween party for the kids tomorrow, which I've prepared with four of my mom friends. We're so excited to see our kids dressed up in their coolest Halloween costumes, along with fun games and surprises! And what's a party without LOTS of FOOD?!! One of my top fave celebrity chef, Barefoot Contessa's Ina Garten graces the November cover of Good Housekeeping magazine, on newsstands October 18, and in her interview, she shares these time-saving cooking secrets and strategies, exclusive recipes, and tips for elegant entertaining just in time for Thanksgiving -- all worth sharing to my dear Hip Mama's Place readers!
On planning and preparing a great Thanksgiving meal, without spending the whole day in the kitchen: “The planning is everything. Deciding which dishes you're going to prepare can turn into the make-or-break decision five days later, when you actually serve the meal. So the first thing I'll do is make a list of what I'd like to make. And then I look at it and think, Do I really need seven vegetables? And I start crossing things off. I'll decide upon the appetizers and the dessert; I think about the colors, the flavors, and the textures….You want to make sure they all balance each other well. The next thing I do is think about how many dishes on that menu have to be made in the moment. And if anything has to be made right before serving dinner, I take it off the list or find a substitute. The third thing I do is a schedule of how I'm going to get the meal on the table. Not Thanksgiving Day, but before I've gone shopping.”
On her mother’s cooking: “My mother would never let me in the kitchen. I always wanted to cook, but I was never allowed to. Her view of the world was, "Cooking is my job, and studying is your job." I think, in retrospect, she didn't like the chaos. She was very orderly. It had to be her way. But as Jeffrey says, the minute we got married and I started cooking, it was like putting a flame to dry wood — I just loved it.”
“I would say most of her cooking was very spare; it was flavorful, but not voluptuous. She was a dietitian and never let us eat much sugar or many carbohydrates.”
“I don't think she was a happy cook. She made the meal because it needed to be done, but I do it because I love cooking for the people I love. It didn't feel like that was a component for her, I'm sorry to say.”
If you were invited to someone else's house for the holidays, what would you bring, and why? “I try not to interfere with somebody's meal. Because if you bring something and it doesn't go with the dinner, they feel like they have to serve it. I would normally bring homemade granola and some great coffee for breakfast the next day. You know what I love to bring? Fran's Salted Caramels; they go with any meal.”
On party favors: “I always make twice as much as I need, and then I pack up the leftovers so everybody gets to take some home.”

Bissell Stomp ‘n Go Stain-Lifting Pads Review
As much as I try keeping up with everyday housework, I really get behind. With three kids and work, general housekeeping is an unending task for me. My six and four year old boys drink from sippy cups and I can't tell you how many times a week they spill orange or grape juice or food on the carpets. Our fourteen year old soccer player comes home with muddy shoes a few times a week too. So imagine what I do to keep stains off our carpets. We don't have any pets (thank God!), but keeping up with carpet stains is one thing I really have my hands and knees on at least a few times a week.
So I'm so glad Mom Central has asked me to try the new BISSELL Stomp 'N Go stain-lifting pads. These pads are totally amazing! They come pre-moistened with oxy-based cleaning formula. How you use it: Just place one pad over a spill and give it a good stomp, then the stain will begin to absorb into the pad. No need for hard scrubbing the use of cleaning tools, Stomp 'N Go pads can remove most spots and stains within 30 minutes, though tougher stains may take up to 24 hours.
I tried the Stomp 'N Go pads on a few carpet stains from muddy shoes in our living room and juice and food spills in my kids' playroom and wow, the stains were really gone within the 30 minute time frame! No more bending over or getting on my hands and knees to scrub a stain--- now for me, that's a huge plus!

Money-Saving Coupons and Deals for the Week
I've been in a really great money-saving mode this month and have been scouring online and in magazines and Sunday papers for money-saving coupons on food and everyday items. Here are some of the coupons I found that are worth clipping (or printing). After I told my husband about all the coupons I found, he exclaimed, "Look at you being frugal! Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year. That's because I get to dress up my two lovable cuties fun Halloween costumes! Dannon Activia Selects Product Review
I'm on a continuous quest to lose weight so I try to find easy, nutritious snack solutions to help achieve my goals. Thanks to Mom Central, I got to try a new option to snack healthy with Activia Selects yogurt!
As a busy mom, wife and jewelry designer, my days can get super busy that sometimes grabbing a quick bite in the refrigerator seems the easiest way to satisfy my mid-day hunger.
