FLY AWAY movie for Autism Awareness Month

April is Autism Awareness Month and this Friday, April 15th, the film Fly Away will be shown in select theaters in LA, NY and DC to celebrate Autism Awareness Month.



Fly Away is a compelling story about a mother and daughter and their relationship as it is about the realities of living with autism.

Synopsis:

Fly Away narrates the story of Jeanne (Beth Broderick, Bonfire of the Vanities, Sabrina the Teenage Witch) and her teenage daughter, Mandy (Ashley Rickards, One Tree Hill) who is severely impacted with autism. As Mandy matures, her disability becomes harder to manage, and so does Jeanne’s own life. Jeanne is forced to confront the most difficult choice any parent faces: to let go, allowing a child to grow, but apart, or to hold on tight and fall together. The film also stars Greg Germann (Ally McBeal, Friends with Money) and J.R. Bourne (Little Birds).

The film is executive produced by Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke and written and directed by Janet Grillo -- who comes at the topic from personal experience as she has a young son with autism. Financed largely by contributions of individuals who themselves are touched by autism or believe the cause is important, Fly Away not only covers a touching story of the realities of dealing with autism but also begs the greater dialogue about what our society as a whole will do as this generation of children with autism grows into a generation of adults with autism.

It's important to note that Fly Away is being released in time for Autism Awareness Month to help support this cause and with the hopes of screening the film for members of Congress as part of their lobbying efforts.

Don't try to go extreme all at once. Take it step by step, rather than show up at a checkout with 50 coupons and little idea what you're doing.

2. Never Pay For Coupons
There are some things in this life you just shouldn't pay for, and a coupon is one of them. Paying someone to clip or organize your coupons defeats the purpose of living frugally. Instead, surf Sunday newspaper ad supplements for coupon savings; ask your neighbors for their unwanted papers; or dive inside a recycled dumpster or two. Also, free online coupon sites like CouponSherpa.com give consumers access to a multitude of coupon codes and printable coupons for thousands of merchants.

3. Get Organized
A little organization can go a long way. Always create a shopping list and have your coupons and shopping strategy organized before you even enter the store. Use an expandable coupon binder to sort coupon inserts by date, categories and expiration dates. Transfer to a small couponizer only those you'll need for a specific shopping trip.

4. Location, Location, Location
Where you shop is a key factor in making the best use of your time and coupons. Only shop at locations that allow coupon stacking and combining coupons with in-store offers. Don't be afraid to call and ask about policies before you show up. You don't want to wind up embarrassed at the checkout line with a handful of useless coupons.

5. Loyalty Rewards
Always take advantage of club membership rewards. These programs are usually free and have many savings perks, like rewards points, cash back programs, and double points for every certain amount you spend.

6. Don't Be Greedy
This is often where extreme couponers cross over into the world of hoarding. Only shop for items you actually need, products you can stock up on that aren't perishable, and those you can donate. Remember, a bargain is only a bargain if you can actually use the purchase. If your pantry has expanded into your living room and the kids are sleeping on rolls of toilet paper, you've probably reached hoarder status.

Pantry Organizing Challenge - Comment Up and Enter to Win an iPad2!

What is your biggest family/household challenge?
My pantry is too small it's always way too cluttered and unorganized.

Yup, a nice big house with three kids and a small pantry like the ones you see in one or two bedroom apartments. It doesn't fit, right? I mean, don't get me wrong. I love our house. We got nice size bedrooms, a comfy patio that we enjoy around this time of year when the weather is perfect. But the pantry and the laundry area have been one of my biggest challenges when it comes to organizing and making our house look neater.

Here are a few photos of our pantry that I took just today:








It's so small and always jammed up I have no choice but to put some of the overflow grocery items on top of our new laundry dryer -- which sits right across from the awfully small pantry! I know... it doesn't look good.

So, I'm going to do something about this problem before it gets way out of hand. Stay tuned next month to read my Genius Tip on how I beat this challenge!

England's Lake District National Park

I had such a wonderful weekend. My husband and I went on a a little getaway to beautiful Charlottesville, Virginia! Nothing grand. Just exploring this historic little town, learning about U.S. History and enjoying early Spring in the country side. Ahhh... I love the sight of beautiful mountain slopes, the greenery, the beautiful colors of flowers. Charlottesville is beautiful although I can't say it's comparable to the spectacular mountain views as the ones at the cottages lake district.


Yup. I've been dreaming about one day exploring a beautiful place outside the country like Lake District National Park in North West England. It's supposed to be a popular tourist destination and a fantastic place to visit with lakes and mountains. I know some people would rather explore the country but my husband and I are world travelers. We love exotic places, new things to do, delicious new foods (and wines!) to try from other cultures!

So where is Lake District National Park and what's so special about it? The Lake District National Park is located in the northwest corner of England in the county of Cumbria. The Lake District National Park is famous for its stunning scenery, abundant wildlife and cultural heritage. In other words, they've got mountains, valleys, villages, towns, coastline and of course lakes!

Here are a few things I'd like to do when me and my husband visit there:

1. I'd like to go on a walking and hiking adventure, tackling one of the classic Lakeland fells in the company of a walking guide.

2. I'd like to visit Northern Lake District's famous Mirehouse Historic House where Wordsworth and other famous poets were regular guests. I also want to explore the Shap Abbey and the Muncaster Castle, the Ravenglass Roman Bathhouse in the western side and also go to the South-eastern Lake District side to see the Ambleside Roman Fort, the Stott Park Bobbin Mill and other historic spots and houses there.

I'm sure there are a ton of other fun things to do in Lake District National Park, but those are just a few of the things I can think of right now. One thing my husband and I learned from traveling so much is to plan ahead of time- prioritizing our must-see and must-do while visiting a new place, getting transportation and event tickets ahead of time (getting them from our local travel agent really helps!), important things to pack, and so on. I can't wait to go on another international trip with my husband. Hmmm, who knows... it will be at Lake District National Park?
