On April 5th, watch for the release of the new DVD, "The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That! Tales About Tails" from the famous Dr. Seus series.
Glad to receive a copy for review and just like the other Dr Seuss DVDs we owned, my little boys enjoyed watching the silliness of the characters in each episode included in this DVD. Featuring the voice of comedic actor Martin Short as The Cat in the Hat, Tales About Tails is such a fantastic addition to our family DVD library!
Synopsis:
What’s better than a tale or two?
Tales about Tails from you know who!
It so happens the Cat knows a lot about tails
There are tails on beavers, and even on whales!
You can see how a monkey’s tail helps him climb high
Or a rattlesnake’s tail warns of danger nearby.
When the kids want to perform a little dance,
They meet a bird named Tango, who teaches a prance.
Take a journey with your favorite Cat,
The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!
The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That! Tales About Tails includes these episodes your children may have already seen on PBS Kids such as A Sticky Situation, Trees Company, Rain Game, You Should Be Dancing and A Tale About Tails.

3M Natural View Screen Protector Review
My husband and I both own Blackberry Bold 9700 smart phones and so far, we love them! They work great, they're easy to use and personally, I don't remember having any problems with my Blackberry phone since I've had them about a year ago. The only thing I don't particularly care about is that the phone screen gets easily smudged and looks 'foggy'. We used to have screen protectors on our phones before but they just never really worked very well.
So I was thrilled to work with Mom Central to try the new 3M™ Natural View Screen Protector for BlackBerry® Bold™ 9700/9780
The 3M Natural View Screen Protector package I received came with two protectors so naturally, I shared the other one with my husband for his Blackberry phone. But of course, if you only need to use one, it's always nice to have an extra one handy in case you need it for later.
The 3M Natural View Screen Protector application was a no-brainer. First, I made sure my phone screen was free of dust and smudge before I applied the screen protector which you have to peel off to reveal the sticky surface that adheres to the phone screen. It's really neat that the protector is cut out according to the design of my phone so it was really easy to apply it on the screen. The package even comes with a flat plastic card (like a credit card)-- better known as a "squeegee", to help press the air bubbles out while applying the protectors to your screen.
Here's a short video so you can see how easy it is to apply this protector on your phone screen:
From the 3M website:
Keep your BlackBerry® Bold™ 9700/9780 looking as good as new with a 3M™ Natural View Screen Protector—technology that makes your digital display look and perform that much better. See what life could look like with a Natural View Screen Protector on your BlackBerry® Bold™ 9700/9780.
Crystal Clear Image – Advanced Natural View Screen Protector film reduces screen reflection and increases clarity, even in bright light conditions.
Scratch Resistant – 3M technology provides superior screen protection against scratches and damage.
Smudge Resistant – 3M Scotchgard™ technology allows fingerprints and oils to wipe away easily.
Long-Lasting Protection – Natural View Screen Protectors provide a durable hardcoat of protection for your cell phone screen.
Stay-clean Edges – Innovative 3M coating prevents dust and grime from collecting around the edges.
Easy On/Off – 3M’s residue-free adhesive means your screen protector goes on easy and comes off clean.
Lifetime Warranty – Backed by a world leader in innovation, and brand you can trust.
Overall, I like having the 3M Natural View Screen Protector on my phone. The Smudge Resistant feature is definitely working and my phone screen looks so much cleaner. The protector also doesn't really blur the images on my phone while I'm using it, unlike the other brand of screen protector I used before. No one would even know my screen has a protector on it.
For more information on 3M Natural View Screen Protectors for many other types of smart phones and digital devices, visit the 3M Mom Central website. You can also buy it now on Amazon for about $10.
Hip Mama's Place Disclosure: “I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of 3M and received a Natural View Screen Protector to facilitate my review and a gift certificate to thank me for taking the time to participate.”

Staying Fit During Pregnancy
The common belief about pregnancy is that you have to start eating for two. In my opinion, though, you do not have to eat twice as much... only twice as healthy!
- Instead of eating three big meals, I eat six small and frequent meals. This diet includes three main meals and three snacks. I'm a fan of rice, so what I do for my main meals is to eat strictly only one cup of rice (preferably brown rice) paired with a viand (main dish). Always go for home-cooked meals and stay away from fried and salty foods. As for my snacks, I eat a cup or a medium-sized piece of any fruit. I do give in to sweet cravings once in a while, but it is a must to have control over these cravings!
- I exercise on a daily basis. I have to admit, I was a couch potato before I got pregnant (even though I have a gym membership). But, when I was told that I need to have a steady weight gain to avoid C-section birth, I shook off my laziness and started to exercise. Daily 30-minute walks will do, but if you can go farther, do it. My doctor also advised various positions such as squats to prepare for child birth, so ask your healthcare provider about what kind of exercises you can do. Try to find someone to exercise with so you'd have the motivation to do it every day.
- Finally, I drinks lots and lots and lots of water. It is important to stay hydrated during your pregnancy. This keeps you from feeling over fatigued and irritable. Moreover, it can stop you from craving for unhealthy foods (thirst is often associated with hunger, so stop binge eating by drinking water).
More than staying fit and healthy, it is also important to be happy all throughout your pregnancy. As my doctor always says, "A happy mommy bears a happy baby!" Follow these helpful advice and you will sure have a healthy and happy pregnancy! Enjoy!

My Name Is Not Alexander by Jennifer Fosberry - Book Review and Giveaway
If you're heading out to the bookstore for new picture books for your little one, make sure to check out this new witty, lovable picture book by Jennifer Fosberry, My Name Is Not Alexander.
We had the pleasure to receive a review copy of this book and my kiddos really love it!
My Name Is Not Alexander follows the story of a young boy on an imaginary trip through history as he pretends to be some of the innovative men who influenced and shaped our world.
About the book:
Just how big can a little kid dream?
Ask Alexander, as he takes a wild ride and discovers the sky’s the limit!
Through Alexander’s imaginative journey, he discovers how great men become heroes:
· The roughest rider can be surprisingly gentle (Theodore Roosevelt)
· A strong leader is also the most peaceful (Chief Joseph)
· Being brave about what makes you different will not only help you break records, but inspire others (Jackie Robinson)
· A curious mind can lead to new discoveries (Thomas Edison)
· Being creative and trying new things can motivate others (Fred Astaire)
· And sometimes our biggest hero is closest to home (Daddy)
My Review:
Just like the award-winning story book by Jennifer Fosberry, My Name Is Not Isabella, my five year old Gabriel (who's more into books than my four year old Jaden) also loved reading My Name Is Not Alexander.
This book shares a beautiful message that encourages a child to dream and be more than they can be. Jennifer Fosberry did a wonderful job at writing a charming story for children that's filled with nurturing lessons. It's got a lot of humor and the colorful, vivid imagery makes your child want to read more!
I had so much fun reading this book with my boys. The story is easy to read for little ones and it also covers a bit of history about the past great men that influenced our country. I also love the extra feature on the back of the book about “Men Who Changed the World" that features short bios (photos and descriptions) of the famous men Alexander pretends to be. I highly recommend this enjoyable picture book to kids ages 4-8.
My Name Is Not Alexander by Jennifer Fosberry is now available at Amazon and at your leading book retailers.
*GIVEAWAY!
One of you lucky Hip Mama's Place reader will win one (1) copy each of the books,

Beautiful Villas in Cyprus
One of the things my husband and I absolutely love doing is traveling to and visiting new places. No matter how busy our lives get, we try and find time to explore new places and just enjoy being alone with each other. But as any couple with growing kids, it's quite a challenge for us to just pack the bags and leave the kids home. The great thing is that we have families that help us so we can leave with ease knowing that our kids are in good hands. I mean, who doesn't like to be kid-free while on vacation once in a while?
Talking about traveling to new places. Have you ever been to Cyprus? I have been to Europe once with my husband but not in Cyprus yet. I'm honestly intrigued by this beautiful island country in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. With so many fun things to do and beautiful attractions and sights to see: villages perched on mountain slopes, fresco-ed churches built in Byzantine style, the famous historical ruins of the Romans, the lush greenery and the beautiful beaches and marine life... Cyprus is indeed a dream place to be! I mean, I was checking out the beautiful villas in Cyprus online just to see how it's like to stay there and wow, I was totally mesmerized! Besides Cyprus, there's the beautiful Spanish Canary Islands where the festive island of Tenerife stands out from all of the seven islands. Wow, we could stay in one of those fantastic villas in Tenerife! And oh, there's the Ibiza too. Although it seems to me like this place caters more towards the party crowd. Nevertheless, I wouldn't mind visiting this island in the Mediterranean Sea located just 79 kilometers off the coast of the city of Valencia in Spain. Again, the villas in Ibiza are just so tempting!
Cyprus, Tenerife or Ibiza. I'm sure it will be quite an experience visiting those fascinating places. Who knows? We might go someday.

A Healthy Shade of Green on St. Patrick's Day + Yummy Dip Recipes!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Did You Know?
· In Ireland on St. Patrick’s Day, people traditionally wear a small bunch of shamrocks on their jackets or caps. Children wear orange, white and green badges, and women and girls wear green ribbons in their hair.
· According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the highest number of leaves found on a clover is 14!
· The name “lephrechaun” has several origins. It could be from the Irish Gaelic word “leipreachan,” which means “a kind of aqueous sprite.” Or, it could be from “leath bhrogan,” which means “shoemaker.”
And this year, you don’t have to eat corned beef and cabbage to bring out the Irish in you. Everyone can stay healthy with these fresh green appetizers- courtesy of Del Monte and Starkist! And what's cool, you can get 130% your daily Vitamin C with these recipes! Enjoy!

Dream Big, Little Pig: A New Picture Book by Kristi Yamaguchi- Review and Giveaway
As an Olympic figure skating superstar, Kristi Yamaguchi knows about dreaming big. The motto “Always Dream” serves as Kristi’s personal inspiration and this philosophy has contributed to Kristi’s success on and off the ice.
In her new children's picture book, Dream Big, Little Pig!, Kristi inspires young ones to follow their dreams and not be discouraged even when they fail.
Book Synopsis:
Poppy the Pig has big dreams—lots of them! But following her dreams isn’t always easy, and whenever Poppy thinks it might be time to give up, her family reminds her to “Dream Big!” While on a “pig’s day out,” she has so much fun ice skating that she doesn’t even notice those around her who think pigs can’t skate…and without even knowing it, she achieves her dream while doing something she loves! In this funny and inspiring tale that’s perfect for family read-alouds, Poppy realizes she can succeed at anything as long as she believes in herself and has fun doing it!
I read this to my boys and even though my five year old commented that it's "only for girls!", the book has a fantastic story and they were entertained with the funny characters. It reminded me of the cliché, "Try and try until you succeed". This book teaches young children to try new things, to keep believing in themselves and to keep trying until they find something they love to do.
Highly recommended for kids ages 4-8. Now available at Amazon and at your leading book retailers.

Fifteen Minutes Outside: 365 Ways to Get Out of the House and Connect with Your Kids by Rebecca P. Cohen- Book Review and Giveaway
There's a new book that helps parents how to incorporate the outside (all year round) while spending time with their kids.
The book is written by gardening and outdoor lifestyle expert Rebecca P. Cohen based on her own journey as a parent.
Fifteen Minutes Outside: 365 Ways to Get Out of the House and Connect with Your Kids is a month-by-month collection of 365 easy and enjoyable ways to connect as a family and explore life outdoors.
According to Rebecca, not only did she feel closer to her family after the year end, but they also experienced great health benefits through fun physical exercise and discovered a deeper appreciation for nature.
Here are a few of Rebecca's quick and fun ideas to get your family to do fun, creative things outdoors in any season:
- Make a Birdfeeder- Make a bagel bird feeder yourself and hang it on a tree outside within view of where you eat breakfast. No bagel? Use a pinecone instead.
- Make Mud Prints - Give your kids license for what you feel comfortable with: mud shoe prints, mud bike tire prints, mud handprints, no rules? Let your kids loose and have towels ready by the door for muddy shoes and clothes as soon as you are home.
- Ships Ahoy! Sail Juice Box Boats in Puddles - After your kids finish their juice boxes, find a puddle and float them like boats.
- Look for an Aerial Battle - At this time of year, the kids and I tend to notice small birds engaged in battle with a larger bird in the distance overhead. Keep watch on the sky; do you see a turf battle? A hawk hunting for newly hatched baby birds? What can you find?
- Make Your Own Fossil - Take a small box, tape both sides and remove one side of the box. Fill the box with mud and press objects, such as shells, rocks, leaves, or sticks into the mud and bring the boxes inside to dry.
I always look for fun, fresh ideas to do with my kids and this book offers a ton of new and creative suggestions and activities that I never thought about before. For a busy mom like me, fifteen minutes outdoors with my kids everyday isn't impossible, so what's not to try?
Fifteen Minutes Outside: 365 Ways to Get Out of the House and Connect with Your Kids is now available at Amazon and on sale for only $10.19!
