Checking Out the New Coca-Cola Freestyle At Wegman's (Lanham, Maryland)

I recently had the pleasure of attending a really cool happy hour event along with other mommy bloggers in the Washington, D.C. area- where we got to see and experience first-hand how the cool new fountain from The Coca-Cola Company called Coca-Cola Freestyle works. The event took place at the Wegman's store in Lanham, Maryland last December 1st, 2010.

My always supportive, hot, sweet husband came along with me to this event- as this really unique new fountain machine had really piqued both our curiosities. :)

I mean, a soda machine that gives over a hundred varieties of beverage brands- how is that possible? I know a lot of restaurant or convenience store soda fountains gives 6, 8 or even a dozen different drink flavors- but not more than that!

So first, I want to say that Coca-Cola Freestyle is not your ordinary soda machine. This machine can dispense 106 (yes, you read that right) beverage flavors: regular and low-calorie sparkling beverages, flavored waters, sports drinks, lemonades, and options from the Coca-Cola trademark family—Coca-Cola®, Diet Coke®, Coke Zero™ and caffeine free Diet Coke® - all in one single free-standing machine! This cool, totally interactive touch-screen fountain machine uses PurePour™ microdosing technology to dispense 106 soda flavors.

So how do you use the Coca-Cola Freestyle fountain machine?

To get your drink, all you do is follow three simple steps: 1. Push the ice lever, 2. Choose your brand of choice 3. Pour. It's really easy!

Do I want Raspberry Diet Coke? Hmmm...maybe. Yes. No. Okay, let me try the Minute Maid Light Cherry Lemonade instead. And maybe mix it with a little regular Fanta Lime. Decisions, decisions. That's exactly what I was thinking trying to decide which flavors to try. Oh, wow! So many choices. It was hard to choose! :)

The neatest thing about this soda machine is that when you push/choose one particular brand of soda- for example, regular Coca-Cola- it will then show you 6 different Coca-Cola flavors: regular Coke, Coke with Lime, Cherry Coke, Orange Coke, Vanilla Coke, Raspberry Coke. Choose the soda flavor you like best or if you like mixing flavors, you can certainly play with this machine and mix up your own flavors!

At this Coca-Cola Freestyle happy hour event, I also got to hang out with some of the coolest mommy bloggers in the Washington D.C. area (pictured here). Seated/back from left: Justice Fergie from the blog MamaLaw, Urban Mama, Jessica from A Parent in Silver Spring and myself. Kneeling/front row from left: Kim from I'm Not the Nanny, Sue from Laundry for Six and Aimee at Smiling Mama. Everyone was so friendly and we were all chatty. I enjoyed the conversations and hilarious jokes especially by Urban Mama- boy, she's a natural comedienne! And Smiling Mama Aimee- she had the nicest, warmest smile ever! It was so nice meeting you all, ladies! :)

And what's a fun gathering without great food? Coca-Cola Freestyle and Wegman's spoiled us with so much delectable food, fabulous sweets and endless soda refills from the Coca-Cola Freestyle fountain machine!

One of Wegman's chefs even walked us through a cooking demo that focused on easy preparation of weeknight meals- a great topic of interest for busy moms like me! The chef also showed us how to make Coca-Cola Braised Pork Shoulder. What a cool idea to use my slow cooker again! :)

I live close to a Wegman's store (Woodbridge, Virginia) so my family are huge Wegman's shoppers. My husband and I go there at least 3 to 4 times a month and we especially love the deli, cheese and wine section. Once in a while, I go there for organic skincare items, flavored teas and supplements. I also love checking out the kitchen decor and gadgets section. For my holiday party this year, I actually bought Christmas-inspired party plates, table napkins and table covers at Wegman's and I received wonderful compliments from our guests about them!

I thought the Wegman's in Lanham, Maryland is bigger than our Wegman's in Woodbridge, Virginia but then I realized that they don't have a second floor like in Woodbridge. Regardless the sizes, both stores are great places to shop. I just love Wegman's!

Want to see if you live close to a Coca-Cola Freestyle? Go visit Coca-Cola Freestyle on Facebook for other locations and to find out more about the coolest new fountain machine from the Coca-Cola Company!

Hip Mama's Place Disclosure: "My reviews and opinions are 100% my own. I was invited to attend the Coca-Cola Freestyle Event by the Coca-Cola Freestyle Team and received Coca-Cola samples and a Wegman's gift card to thank me for my participation. I was in no way influenced by Coca-Cola Freestyle, Wegman's or any other party while writing this review".

I'm Giving Back Through GiveBack.org

I'm excited about doing the rest of my Christmas shopping this year. Why? I found a way to shop for gifts for my family and friends while giving back to my favorite charities!

How?

I recently signed up for GiveBack.org - a public charity that allows me to create my own charitable foundation for free and helps me give back to my chosen charities by donating or shopping at stores I already shop at!

What is Giveback and how does it work?

I'm sure this is not the first time you heard about a program that allows you to give to a charity when you shop. But GiveBack is different.

With GiveBack, you have full control of your own charitable giving where you can choose to make tax-deductible donations to your charities in any amount at any time, manage the charities you support and earn rewards for your charities by shopping at participating merchants on GiveBack.

It's such a great feeling that I can shop for the things I need at the stores I already shop frequently- such as Gap, Old Navy, The Children's Place and Kohl's- while I help charities that are dear to my heart. Every time I shop, a percentage of my purchase is returned to me as a reward that will then be added to my chosen foundation or charity. And depending on the merchant, each eligible purchase I make earns my foundation 1% to 30% of my total purchase! Now, how wonderful is that?

Here is a short video that I encourage you all should watch, to better understand how Giveback works:

Thanks to Serena Williams, Steve Nash and Mission Skin Care's support of GiveBack.org, anyone who signs up on Giveback can earn a $5.00 for their foundation. II'm also glad that the charities I want to support are listed on there and I can give tax-deductible gifts to my foundation account anytime I want, whenever I'm ready to give. And the 'shopping while giving back' idea- that's what I love most about it!

So here are a few important points I learned about Giveback that I want to share to you all and why I think Giveback is such a helpful tool to organize and manage your charitable gift-giving:

- Giveback is a one-stop site to manage all of your charitable gift giving that you can easily manage and keep track on

- There are over 400 retailers on Giveback that lets you earn money for your chosen foundation just by shopping through those merchants. You can do this while you're logged on to your own account on Giveback.org

- 100% of the money you donate to your chosen charities goes to support those charities. There is no charge to you or to the charities with using Giveback

- When you open an account at GiveBack, you're becoming part of the GiveBack Foundation, a public charity that is registered with the IRS. Your account becomes your own personal foundation. You can accumulate dollars over time and when you're ready, give the money away to one charity or many.

- You will get one single tax form from Giveback that will record all of your charitable giving for the year so you don't have to keep track of every single donation you make

- You can give to any charity registered with the IRS

So this holiday season, why not start supporting your favorite causes and charities through Giveback? It's totally free!

Hip Mama's Place Disclosure: "My reviews and opinions are 100% my own. This post is part of my participation with the Giveback project through One2One Network. I was in no way influenced by One2One Network, Giveback or any other party while writing this review".

Super Pocoyo DVD Review and Giveaway

My little boys (five year old) Gabriel and (almost four year old) Jaden really love this witty little guy named Pocoyo.

We owned two of the earlier Pocoyo DVDs and this new one we just received from NCircle Entertainment, Super Pocoyo, is even more entertaining!

Synopsis:

Pocoyo explores, discovers, encounters, laughs, questions and celebrates. Join Pocoyo and his friends Duck, Elly, Loula and Sleepy Bird as they play hide and seek, fly an airplane and go on a camping adventure! Discover learning through laughter with Pocoyo!

My Take on Super Pocoyo DVD:

Super Pocoyo is a fun animated show for children that follows the adventures of a super adorable and witty little boy named Pocoyo and his friends Pato (a duck), Elly (a pink elephant), Sleepy Bird, Baby Bird, & more! Your kids will learn a number of things in this show such as: helping each other, being kind, exploring the world, encouraging creativity, coloring, painting and more!

There were lots of giggles from my boys throughout the show especially the episode where the flower dances and Pocoyo would look disappointed when the flower stops to dance because it's thirsty and needed water. The flower would then start dancing again when Pocoyo pours water on it with his magical watering can. Silly but very entertaining!

I also love the cool and vibrant colors used all throughout the show- very easy on my kids' eyes and the movement of the characters is not too fast. This 90-minute DVD with is full of hilarious antics children will enjoy all year through! Recommended age: 0-6 years old.

Pocoyo DVDs and toys are now available at Toys “R” Us. Current NCircle DVDs include a catalog inserted inside the DVDs with a $2.00 off coupon for Pocoyo toys! Great idea to stuff the kids' Christmas stockings! :)

PJs For The Cure Needs Your Support Raising Funds for Juvenile Diabetes- Some Facts and a PJ Giveaway!

Do you know that juvenile diabetes affects more than 15,000 US children each year? That's why November has been marked National Diabetes Awareness Month- a perfect time to raise awareness about this disease.

Some Facts about Diabetes:

Diabetes is a chronic, debilitating disease affecting every organ system. There are two major types of diabetes: type 1 and type 2.

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. Type 1 diabetes usually strikes in childhood, adolescence, or young adulthood, but it lasts a lifetime. People with type 1 diabetes must take multiple injections of insulin daily or continually infuse insulin through a pump to survive.

Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disorder in which a person’s body still produces insulin but is unable to use it effectively. Type 2 is usually diagnosed in adulthood and does not always require insulin injections. However, increased obesity has led to a recent rise in cases of type 2 diabetes in young adults.

The Damage Caused by Diabetes:

Attacks Many Organ Systems: Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure, adult blindness, and non-traumatic amputations and a leading cause of nerve damage, stroke, and heart attacks.

Increased Risk
: People with diabetes are two to four times more likely to have a heart attack or stroke than someone without the disease.

Shortens Life: Diabetes kills one American every three minutes and is the 7th leading cause of death reported in the U.S. Life expectancy for people with diabetes is shortened by an average of 7-10 years.

In an effort to effectively support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation(JDRF), Komar- the largest sleepwear and intimate apparel manufacturer in the United States, has created a fun way to raise funds through its non-profit foundation, PJs For The Cure. This program is unique in that Komar is donating 100% of every sale to JDRF to fund further research for a cure for this chronic disease that predominately strikes in childhood. Through this program, Komar will donate 100% of all sales from PJs For The Cure to the JDRF to help fund diabetes research. Komar aims to donate $1 million to the JDRF and they need our help to reach this aggressive, but not impossible goal.

Playhouse Disney's "Timmy Time" Winter Episodes Premiering Tomorrow- Monday, December 6th

To get you into the winter mood, Playhouse Disney will be premiering two new episodes of TIMMY TIME this coming Monday, December 6th, as part of their Holiday Magic Mondays series that will air all throughout the month of December. These winter-themed episodes are titled “Timmy’s Snowball” and “Timmy’s Snowman,” and they are set to air at 7am/6am Central. These episodes will also repeat throughout the month.

"TIMMY TIME" received a Children’s BAFTA Award for Best Pre-School Animation this past weekend. Timmy fans can look forward to his first DVD release in early 2011 from Lionsgate and HIT Entertainment, and a toy line will be available in Spring 2011 from JAKKS Pacific.

ABOUT TIMMY TIME

"TIMMY TIME" follows the adventures of Timmy, a little lamb with a lot to learn as he enters preschool. Fans of Aardman’s hit children’s series "Shaun the Sheep" will recognize Timmy as the baby lamb on the farm who is frequently drawn into all kinds of chaotic adventures by the mischievous older sheep. Used to having his way by being “the only lamb in the flock,” Timmy is now heading to preschool to graze on some important life lessons about playing nicely with others, namely his fellow classmates of the furry, feathered and spiky types.

For more on TIMMY TIME, go to PlayhouseDisney.com!

Fix-It and Forget-It Christmas Cookbook: 600 Slow Cooker Holiday Recipes- Book Review and Giveaway

My slow cooker is going to be working overtime this holiday season. My husband and I are hosting a holiday party at home in the next two weeks, then another party at my in-laws' house after that, followed by another holiday party we were invited to. In all of those occasions, I will sure to be using my slow cooker to make some of our favorite holiday recipes!

I recently received two new cookbooks from Good Books- the publisher who created the phenomenally successful Fix-It and Forget It cookbooks: Fix-It and Forget-It Christmas Cookbook: 600 Slow Cooker Holiday Recipes and the first-ever kids’ slow cooker cookbook, Fix-It and Forget-It Kids’ Cookbook: 50 Favorite Recipes to Make in a Slow Cooker, both by Phyllis Pellman Good.

With Fix-It and Forget-It Christmas Cookbook: 600 Slow Cooker Holiday Recipes, you can enjoy a great, stress-free holiday! Ms. Pellman did a great job providing her readers with simple, manageable slow-cooker Christmas recipes in this book. This book will fill your head with menu ideas, give you gentle guidance with each recipe, and deliver dishes that your friends and family will absolutely love! Feast on some of Ms. Pellman's holiday recipes, such as Holiday Spinach and Artichoke Dip, Cornish Hens with Potatoes, Sausage Tortellini Soup, Fruited Turkey and Yams, Seafood Cheese Fondue, Vanilla Steamers, and Fudgy Peanut Butter Cake. Mmmmm, just the thought of it makes me want to take out my slow cooker right now and start cooking up a storm! :)

For kids, there's the Fix-It and Forget-It Kids’ Cookbook: 50 Favorite Recipes to Make in a Slow Cooker which offers kids the direction and encouragement they need to prepare easy-to-make, tasty meals—everything from main courses to snacks and even desserts! Now, you can get your kids cooking without the fear of a hot stove or open flame with this first-ever kids’ slow cooker cookbook by Phyllis Pellman Good. With yummy, kid-friendly recipes such as Pizza Dip, Party Meatball Subs and Gooey Chocolate Pudding Cake, this kids' cookbook is sure to be a hit for the budding chef in your household!

The Fix-It and Forget It cookbooks have sold nearly 10 million copies. Fans credit the popularity of the cookbooks to their accessible recipes, geared to those with little time or confidence to cook. Both books are now available at leading book retailers: Borders, Barnes and Noble and at Amazon.com.

*WIN BOTH BOOKS!

Go enter to win both books at Hip Mama's Place "12 Days of Christmas" 2010 Giveaway Event, ending December 11th!

*Hip Mama's Place Disclosure: “My reviews and opinions are 100% my own. Good Books provided me a copy of each book mentioned in this post to facilitate my review. Separate copies will also be provided as reader giveaways".
