"Got Milk?" Cool Recipes and Wellness Tips

The hot summer months call for refreshing drinks and snacks. But finding a healthy yet, affordable alternative to sodas or artificially-flavored fruit drinks can prove to be a challenge, especially to us health-conscious moms. Here's a fact: a new survey conducted by the national Milk Council showed that more than 1,000 moms across the U.S. reported fruit drinks and slushies among their children's top summertime drinks.

That's why the national Milk Mustache "Got Milk?" Campaign has presented healthy tips, recipes and snack ideas to get our kids excited again about drinking their milk during summer on WhyMilk.com

So why is it important to incorporate milk into our kids' meals and snack times? Here are a few great reasons:

* Milk is one of the “food groups to encourage” in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which recommend 3 cups of low-fat or fat-free milk a day

* Milk is a great source of Calcium (for strong bones and teeth) and Vitamin D (helps support a healthy heart and normal blood pressure), plus seven other essential nutrients

*An eight-ounce serving of milk costs less than 25 cents on a gallon basis and provides more nutrients per penny than almost any other beverage option available in the supermarket- it can't get any better than that!

I recently visited WhyMilk.com and found some really healthy snacks and easy-to-make lunch recipes that I want to try on my own. So my next stop at the grocery store will include getting ingredients I need to make these refreshing fruit smoothies! My kids drink milk on a daily basis, but I like to be creative with foods so I constantly look for other ways to incorporate important nutrients (like what milk offers) into their diets. I'm glad to find out that WhyMilk.com has simple recipes for healthy snacks, breakfast, lunch and even dinner that include milk as one of the main ingredients. I am certainly bookmarking this very helpful site for future recipe ideas for my family!
