When calming a fussy baby, child experts agree on one thing: touch your baby and provide immediate close physical contact. Studies have shown that babies who are held often cry and fuss less.
As parents, how many different techniques do we use to calm our fussy babies? We dance and sing to them, swaddle them in warm blankets, put them on a swing, or even go as far as taking them out for a ride in the car. I know of a good friend who still does this: everytime her baby girl won't stop crying, she just loads her baby in the car seat and take her out for a short fifteen minute ride. Surprisingly, this technique never failed to soothe her crying baby!
But how many of us know that the most effective fuss-preventing tool is a baby carrier? I didn't learn about this until I recently stumbled upon a very interesting site that advocates "babywearing"- a term used to refer to "the practice of wearing or carrying a baby or child in a sling or other form of carrier". (Wikipedia)
Fortunately for me and my husband, we were.. shall I say, 'blessed' to have two little baby boys who rarely fuss. When Gabriel (our first child) was about a few months old, we bought him a baby carrier mainly so I can have free hands to do things while I have him close to my body. It was also convenient to use for quick stops at the store when we didn't want to bring his stroller in, or when we go for our evening walks. Wearing Gabriel on a baby carrier around me while taking walks was definitely a full workout in itself too (which was a real bonus for me!).
Recently, we were sent the Scootababy baby carrier to test out. It's in black denim with soft, quilted inner lining in cute jellybean prints and came in a black nylon bag. I know not everyone likes black denim but in my opinion, this baby carrier is in style. It's sturdier than most baby carriers I've seen and definitely offers ease of use.
We used the Scootababy baby carrier on our one and a half year old baby Jaden who now weighs 30 lbs. Jaden is a little different than his big brother- he loves being held all the time. So wearing him on our new Scootababy baby carrier suited him perfectly. He sits comfortably in the lightly padded, shaped seat and snuggles contentedly with me or his daddy every time he's on it. I like the fleece shoulder strap as well- it's stretchy and does not prevent me from moving my arm however I like. The waist belt on this baby carrier is also wide and padded so even though I'm short, it sits comfortably around my waist. Unlike the two previous baby carriers we've owned, Scootababy baby carrier has large custom buckles that are easily adjusted even with one hand. So I've been able to "install" it on myself several times without the help of my husband.
We've toted baby Jaden on his Scootababy baby carrier a few times at the grocery store, in the mall, on our little evening walks, and around the house. The verdict: this baby carrier is a perfect 10! (Two thumbs up from me!)
Scootababy baby carrier comes in two styles: Classic and Jellybeans and is appropriate to use for babies aged 5 months and up (to 40 pounds). It's available for purchase, $107 at Scootababy.com.
*Win a Scootababy baby carrier in the Classic style! Leave a comment on this post by Monday, June 30th at 12MN, CST and be entered to win. One winner will be picked using Random.org. Goodluck!

I must admit that I own a Moby-D wrap, but this looks a ton easier to assemble when out and about. The last thing you want is to have to be coordinated enough to wrap yourself in 6 yards of fabric in the middle of a hot parking lot on a summer day. I'd love to win!
We'd love this for our magic city slingers lending library! lots of moms would get use from it!
