Becoming a parent has definitely changed many of my views and concerns on a lot of day-to-day things. One of them being home security.
I am sure I'm not the only one concerned about home security, especially with all the horror stories of home invasions we all hear about today. A recent survey conducted by Mom Central in their mom community showed these stats on home security and locks:
➢ 80% of Mom respondents reported that stories of local crimes encourage them to rethink their current door locks.
➢ 70% of Moms have given keys to people who are not members of the household and when asked to consider how many non-residents have keys to their homes, 86% reported feeling at least moderately concerned.
➢ 84% of Moms have experienced a child, babysitter, or housekeeper entering a designated "off-limits" area in the home, sometimes with serious consequences.
➢ Almost half (48%) of survey Moms said they would like to leave a spare key hidden outside of the house but don't feel comfortable doing so.
➢ 84% of respondents reported that house members have been locked out of their home at least a couple times per year.
When we moved to our house last year, my husband and I made sure we changed the door locks and keys to our home, particularly the front door. We used the regular key locks and somehow it gave me feelings of security that nobody else can access our home except for me and my husband. The only problem to this is that we travel out of town a lot and sometimes we needed to make our home accessible to other people- the babysitter, the house cleaner, or the handyman. But the main concern is the fact that we don't feel comfortable giving out our keys to strangers. There's always a concern about them going into the private, off limit areas in our house such as the bedroom and my husband's home office. And putting locks on every door of our house is not a choice, since we have small children who might accidentally lock themselves in or us out.
Recently, I was asked by Mom Central to try Schlage Electronic Keypad Locks. What a perfect time! My husband and I had been in the market for new home security locks and one of the ones we'd been eyeing to get is an electronic one similar to the Schlage Electronic Keypad Locks we were asked to try. I can say, this keypad was the perfect solution to our home security concerns. No wonder, 98% of Moms surveyed by Mom Central also considered purchasing Schlage Electronic Keypad Locks for their exterior doors.
The keypad has allowed us access to our home easily with the use of a four-digit code that we have customized so friends of our family, guests, nannies, and house cleaners can all access our home using different codes. One thing that's really convenient about using this keypad to secure our home is that we can easily set up or create a unique code (up to 19 on each lock) for a new person and then deactivate the code when we no longer want them to have access to our house. So the hassles of keeping track of spare keys has been completely eliminated!
Schlage Locks come in many different styles and finishes. The one we got was the Camelot Keypad Deadbolt in Aged Bronze finish. I love the distinctive solid brass design to this keypad- perfectly matches our existing door.
Features and Benefits:
*Innovative Turn Lock feature allows you to lock & leave without a key
*Provides the convenience of keyless access; customizable to fit your security needs
*Ideal for front doors, side & back doors, garage entry doors, etc.
*Easily replace most exisiting deadbolts with a screwdriver in about 30 minutes

This is a really cool idea and seems like it will really help improve home security but also make it easy to give access to your home to those who need it. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a large movement towards these types of locks in the future.
I think security is very important and things like quality locks and security systems can play a major role in making sure your home is as safe as possible. I think a quality home security system is a great investment and is definitely something home owners should take a strong look at. A quality home security system should come fully backed by guarantees such as a performance warranty, an equipment warranty, an emergency service guarantee, a false alarm fine guarantee and a satisfaction guarantee.
This is sounds like a really product. We need to get a new key and since hubby has already lost the key once we need to do something else.
