My second baby just turned one year old but he doesn't walk yet. He can sit up, crawl a bit- actually he can move around pretty good now, except for walking. He's growing to be such a strong, happy, and healthy baby overall (thank God!). :)
When he was about six months old, my husband and I were debating over getting him a walker or not to help him to walk soon. We wanted to wait a little bit longer to see how he was progressing on his own without the help of a walker. When he turned one we finally decided to get him a little help so the other day we went out and bought him a new walker and opted for the Sounds 'n Lights Activity Walker by Safety 1st.
My baby loves his 'new toy'! He got excited as soon as we sat him on it. The whimsical toys on the activity tray has a variety of fanciful sounds and lights that definitely entertained him. The activity tray can be easily removed to reveal a spacious snack/toy area underneath- perfect for storing food and drinks. The plush cloth padding on the seat is colorful, removable, and machine washable. There is also a 3 level height adjustment on this baby walker which will let you adjust it to various heights to accommodate your growing baby. This walker glides smoothly on our carpet and tile floor where we mostly have the walker set up. We haven't tried it on any disparate surfaces or stairs in our house yet, but the grip strips are supposed to help for that purpose.
Overall, I can say that this baby-walker-and-activity-center-in-one is a great buy for only $29.95 at Walmart where we got ours. It's available in select baby gear retailers too.

My mom bought my son this and he too loved it. Such a great find for so cheap. Also my son didn't start walking until a few weeks ago and he is 16 months old. I was totally freaked but he did it on his own time and no one else was worried - and he is walking like a champ - no one would guess he has only been walking for a few weeks.
Yeah, like they all tell us--each baby develops in his own time. So I'm not going to get too anxious about my baby not walking at 12 months yet. :)
